Lily, Vulnerably.

There is something about artists.

They are unique, eccentric, expressive.
They breathe life.
They see opportunity.

Sometimes negatively associated with being too emotional, volatile, scattered.
But what is life without creativity? Without adventure?

Artists dream, they believe.
Their hearts don’t beat. The sing.

Taking a moment to analyse what character I admire most about artists…
I realised what I love about them.

They brave vulnerability.

To allow themselves to enter a space to be seen, judged, and loved.
I admire that courage.
In a world filled with people who are subconsciously ruled by their fears, constructing their own walls.
Crafting their own armoury for warfare.
There they are, simply as they are.

I want to be around them often.

This is a commissioned photograph I took of an incredibly diligent and creative acrylic artist Lily.
The artwork you see here is a piece she painted during the midst of COVID lockdown in Melbourne, Australia.

It is dark, strong and expressive.
I envisioned this painting contrasting with the gentleness of her human skin, the tender limbs that created this bold piece.
It is definitely one of my favourite images from the shoot.
What do you think?

Forever will I adore the artists around me.
With each passing day, I also hope to love the artist indeed also, within me.
